This policy explains what information e-student.org collects when you visit the site or use its forms, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We keep it short and specific: e-student.org has no user accounts and no comments. It does show advertising, managed by Mediavine, which is described in its own section below.
Who we are
e-student.org is run by Furnish By Design LLC, a company based in the United States (“we”, “us”). We decide how the information described here is used. For any question about this policy or your data, write to us through our contact form.
What we collect and why
When you visit the site
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time, in order to deliver the page and protect the site against attacks and abuse. This is not used to identify you.
Analytics
We want to know which articles are read and which are useful, so we measure how the site is used with two tools:
- Google Analytics 4, loaded through Cloudflare Zaraz. It records the pages you view, roughly where you are (country and region), your device and browser type, how you arrived at the site, and when you click one of our affiliate links. It sets cookies to recognize a returning browser (see “Cookies” below). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and loading speed without cookies and without identifying visitors.
We use these reports only in aggregate, to improve the site. We do not combine them with other information to identify you.
Affiliate links
Many links to course providers go through an address on our site (e-student.org/goto/…) that sends you on to the provider. We see that a link was clicked, as part of the analytics above. After you arrive at the provider’s site, the provider or its affiliate network (for example Amazon Associates, Rakuten Advertising, Impact, Awin, CJ or ShareASale) may set its own cookies to record that you came from us, so that we can be paid a commission if you buy something. Those cookies are set on their sites and are governed by their privacy policies. The reports we get from them show sales and commissions, not who made them. Our Affiliate Disclaimer explains how these links work.
The newsletter
If you sign up for the E-Student newsletter, we store your email address, the date you signed up, that you agreed to this policy, the page you signed up on and your country (taken from your connection). We use this only to send you the newsletter and to keep a record of your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or by asking us through the contact form, and we will delete your address from the list.
The contact form
When you send us a message, we store your name, your email address and your message, so that we can read it and reply.
The course review form
When you submit a course review, we store what you enter: the course, your review, and, if you choose to give them, your name, title, a link, a photo and your email address. We may publish your review, credited the way you ask on the form (or anonymously if you leave the credit fields empty). Your email address is used only to follow up with you about the review and is never published.
Embedded content
Some articles include content from other websites, such as a YouTube video. Author photos are loaded from Gravatar. When your browser loads such content, it contacts that website, which receives your IP address and may set cookies or record your visit under its own privacy policy, just as if you had visited it directly.
Advertising
Some pages on e-student.org show ads, which are managed by Mediavine, Inc. (most course reviews and our “best courses” lists don’t). Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads and measure them, as described below. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Mediavine asks for your consent first, in a consent banner, and you can accept or refuse personalized advertising there. Refusing doesn’t remove ads; you then see ads that are not personalized.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a "device") by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.
First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, "Tags") may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser's cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser's cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.
The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:
- IP Address
- Operating System type
- Operating System version
- Device Type
- Language of the website
- Web browser type
- Email (in hashed form)
Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor's referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.
If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance's AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.
For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.
Who handles your information for us
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers that run the site for us:
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, stores the newsletter sign-ups and form submissions, and provides Cloudflare Web Analytics and Zaraz.
- Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd provides Google Analytics.
- Mediavine, Inc. manages the advertising on the site, together with the advertising partners it lists on its partners page (see “Advertising” above).
We may also disclose information if the law requires us to. These providers are based in, or process data in, the United States. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the EU–U.S. and Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact messages: as long as we need them to deal with your request, and no longer than 24 months.
- Course reviews: as long as the review is published, and no longer than 24 months if it is not published.
- Google Analytics data: 14 months, after which Google deletes it.
Cookies
The site’s own pages and forms set no cookies. Google Analytics sets these first-party cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguishes browsers, to count returning visitors | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> |
Keeps the state of a visit | 2 years |
Mediavine and its advertising partners set advertising cookies, both first-party and third-party, to show ads and measure them. Which cookies are used depends on the ad partners involved; the Advertising section above explains what they collect and how to opt out, and visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland choose in Mediavine’s consent banner.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, or stop Google Analytics from collecting data with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The site works without cookies; if you block advertising cookies, you still see ads, but they are not personalized. Cookies set by affiliate networks and embedded content are described above.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection), you have the right to:
- ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- object to our use of it, or ask us to restrict it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter or changing your choices in Mediavine’s consent banner.
To use any of these rights, contact us through the contact form. We will answer within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the one in the country where you live.
Children
e-student.org is written for adult learners and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the site or the services we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
